Quick play

Hello my crafty friends, I hope you are all well and enjoying the first signs of spring. As I write it's sounds like it's a blustery day here in North Cumbria, but as I'm finding out it can be grey and rainy one minute and brilliant sunshine the next, or vice versa. I haven't spent much time in the Garage craft room as to be honest as lovely as it is, I miss my garden space. I miss watching the birds splashing about in the water feature and the sunlight streaming in through the windows. Many as you read this might feel I'm lucky to have the whole garage to myself and I would agree, however as I've found time and again my muse finds the changing of space difficult.

I know this will be worked through in time, I hope! What do you do when your muse has left the building? Anyway with this in mind I forced myself out  for a little play, inspired by the lovely new stamps I received from Rubber Dance, by the lovely Bibi Lindahl.

The background is made up of Infusions by Paper Artsy, and Distress Crayons by Ranger. Next I stamped butterfly girl I then used some butterflies from Rubber Dance and embossed them with silver. The sentiment is from A little birdie which is a beautiful set of stamps which has some lovely birds.

I do hope you like this tag, and I hope my muse returns soon as I'm missing that flow of inspiration and enjoyment I usually experience when creating!

Take care all and hope to be back soon!

Fabulous blog hop with Rubber Dance

Hello everyone,  I have a great start to the week for you all,  as Rubber Dance Stamps By Bibi Lindahl have a new look to their blog and a new release of stamps and to celebrate there is a blog hop from the team. To be in with a chance to win some fabulous stamps please ensure  you leave a comment on each of the blogs. Follow this link to the start of the hop!

My project for the hop is an altered set of table mats for your drinks.

Using DecoArt products to create the the crackle, (weathered wood, tinting base) followed by stamping onto tissue paper, and sticking onto hearts with Matt Medium. Once dry, the flowers and leaves were coloured with Faber Castell Paint Pens. The stamps are by Rubber Dance, designed by the lovely Susanne Rose. Here are some process shots.

Too finish I sealed the mats with a gloss spray and once completely dry add some Metallic Lustre to the edges to add some interest.

I hope you enjoy the hop
Take care

White Acrylic Ink by liquitex Sennellier Oil Pastels and Inktense Pencils. The canvas is 16-20"

Here are some photos of the different stages.

Amongst the flowers for Paper Artsy

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and feeling peaceful. Now I've settled after my leap up North, I'm feeling very peaceful, I'm enjoying the quiet at home, and the buzz at work. Anyway I'm here to let you know that I'm over at Paper Artsy tonight with a small wall hanging. Here's a peep, but I'd love it if you went and had a look and left me some love.

Hope you like it!

Take care as always

Inspired by Tim holtz

Hello everyone, first I would like to apologise for the previous empty post! I don't know what I did wrong, but the post was blogged empty, lol. So here it is, rewritten!

As you are now probably aware the new theme over at Country View Craft  is inspired by the great Man himself Tim Holtz. If you are chosen  at random you will win £20 to spend in the shop.

I started by background in a classic Tim style by adding some Distress Ink onto my mini journal page, drying it and spritzed and flick!

Then the Stencils

I do chuckle to myself when I look at Tims crazy animals in this case cats.

I used Tim's Distress Crayons to add colour google eyes and some large chit chat stickers to finish!

Sorry again about the missing content,

See you soon

Something playful

Hello everyone I do hope you are all okay. It's been a while since my last blog due to the big move up North. I have relocated from Essex up to Cumbria, new job and home. Just need my lovely husband to join me (once he gets a job) and our dream is complete, although much earlier than we anticipated.

Anyway onto a quick play I had the other evening! It took me over a week to get the craft room sorted, but whilst packing I made myself a an emergency bag of craft stuff as I knew it would take a while to get straight. In all honesty I haven't had the energy or motivation to do much crafting but hope now I'm straight and settled in that my creativity will return. So here it is!

I didn't take any process shots as I was in the moment and enjoying myself, but I'll walk you through the stages!

The background was Infusions by Paper Artsy which I sprinkled onto the page and spritzed with lots of water, I then used a wooden stirrer from a coffee shop to spread the colour around the page.

Next I stamped the feature again from Paper Artsy Wings Plate 1 and then I used one of the lovely Emma Godfrey's new Stencils which were released this week. Here's a link to the blog where you can see all the stamps and Stencils in this release.

You can see that I added some shapes of my own which I painted with Inktense pencils from Dewent.

Hope you like my page!
Take care for now

Acrylic tag 30 mins

Hello everyone, today I have my second inspiration for the 30 min challenge over at Country View Crafts chosen for us by the Lovely Sue. I haven't plaid on acrylic for a while so thought I'd use a tag.

I started on what is the backside of the tag using Seth Apter's Stencils and Fresco Acrylic Paints he designed for Paper Artsy. I mixed the colours up and layered them on.

I cut some of Seth's dies to put on the front of the tag, this added to the layers. I looped some of the circles as I loved how they connected and how they move the eyes down the tag.

Lastly I added some washy tape and silver beads to finish. The butterfly is a recycled one whose wings sparkle because of the silver embossing powder I added.

Last look

I hope you have been inspired to join in with the challenge!

I hope you can pop back tomorrow as the winners will be announced, and the two lucky people will have a set of my stamps winging their way to them.

Take care

New challenge in only 30 mins

Hello everyone, thanks for popping in! Today being the first day of the month sees a new challenge start at Country View Crafts and it's a fab one chosen for us by the fabulously Talented Sue. Make something in 30mins!

All your entries entitle you to be in the draw to win £20 to spend in the shop plus Sue will pick her favs. So come on don't be shy set your timer and go!

For my inspiration I chose to work in my small journal!

Here's what I did, I'll provide a list at the bottom of materials used.

I knew I wanted to get sticking so I gathered all my supplies and set my timer, I forgot to screen capture the start and finish times
But trust me I stuck to my limit!

So everything got stuck down with Matt medium and painted over with White. Wasn't sure where I was going here as although I knew I was doing a
Journal page I hadn't a clue at this stage what it would be. I love all the different textures you can see below!

Still not knowing where I was going I add some infusions in my fav colour Violet Storm. I loved the effect, you can see more below!

Then for some unknown reason I grabbed the spray paints and sprayed it Pink

I loved how the Infusions darkened the pink giving different values to the piece and creating some depth.

I knew now it had to be one of these fabulous girls which I painted with watercolours and added shading with Pencils

Added my sentiment and time was up. I had 3 mins spare so not bad! Let's take a last look.

Ranger- Matt Medium : Paper Artsy - Infusions,  Snowflake Fresco Acrylic: Lyndy's Stamp Gang Sprays - Moon shadow Mist, Moonlight Mulberry: StarTrish Designs by Trish Latimer - Whimsy Girl 2

What's on!

Hello everyone, thank you for popping in. Today starts a serial of posts over the next few months whereby I bring you news about the art and craft world, Challenges  Competitions, Art Calls, Exhibitions and more.

Inspired by the current run of Trade Industry shows, worldwide, and how they are shared through video and Social Media, and how It's taken me a long time to navigate myself around; being totally self taught it's easy to miss much of what's out there,  not just for professional artists but for amateur ones as well. If you are beginner, a seasoned crafter, or a budding artist, or anyone interested, I hope these posts will bring a collection of useful information and articles of interest.

You can read it here on the blog as well as subscribe to my newsletter which you are able to download and keep, included will be a copy of each month's events. It will build into a catalogue which can be used for ongoing information. Many of the curators that organise events and art calls do so annually, so you always know when to expect them. So, come follow me around this creative industry as I share what has been useful, as well as what interests me.

Okay so onto my first post in the series which I will name
Full on Drama!

January sees the start of the Craft Product industry's round of shows, with CHA or AFCI as it is to be known from January 2017, kicking off with Creativation in Phoenix Arizona, just last week!

                                                                                                 Screenshot of webpage

I have created a calendar of the dates this year which you can download of get from my newsletter. (Coming soon!)

This is a floor plan  from their app. You can download the app from the App Store for Apple , I didn't check whether android had the app.

AFCI is committed to insuring that the craft industry is a healthy industry which enhances the quality of people's lives. As a therapist I know the benefits of participating in regular creative activities, as it produces hormones in the brain such as Serotonin, which increases pleasure and health.  It also reduces harmful stress hormones such as Cortisol, therefore, creating actually improves happiness. But we all know that don't we?

So what is it all about?
In a similar way to retail craft shows, the industry shows, showcase the new products the manufacturers have developed for this year. It's focus is on educating the retailers about their products and enticing them to stock their shops with all the new trends. The show is full of all the big names out there in the crafting world, and I'm sure you have come across lots demos all over Social Media tempting you  all, the consumers, to start writing your 'cannot live without' lists lol. Yes I'm guilty of it too!  Here is a link to the AFCI blog where you can read about them and what they do. Below is what they say about themselves.

'As an organisation, AFCI strives to deliver innovative high value services as we support our Members who provide products and services
to educate, entertain, and inspire creative consumers. Our Members include the manufacturers, retailers, distributors, designers, educators, digital content providers, professional makers and DIYers, and other creative professionals that comprise the $40 billion+ creative arts industries around the globe.'*

The different manufacturers at the show also offer mini workshops to the retailers and educators, teaching them about their products and demonstrating ways to use them. This filters down and forms the basis of many of the workshops offered by retailing shops to you  the consumer.

For those of you who are Paper Artsy followers, of which I am one,  you can see where their booth was situated below. It's marked in Red and has a tag you are here! I wasn't! Again this is a screenshot of the app.

Getting back to the Show, it calls itself it's the ultimate crafting Industries event, and by the size of it I guess it must be true!

Another focus of the show is networking. Connecting all areas such as suppliers, designers, makers, and bloggers. It is a Social must for anyone wanting to start their own small business!

Well!  you might say, that's fine if you can afford to travel to Arizona but what if you are in Europe? What's out there for you? Good question! There are smaller shows in Europe, Germany being the next one, which started on  Saturday the 28th January and runs until the 31st. The next in the Diary is The Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycrafts show - Manchester U.K. which starts on the 2nd of February.

A little later in the month there is CHSI- Stitches which runs  19-21 February 2017 at the NEC Birmingham. This is the biggest show in Europe.

So you can see why I call full on Drama, it is such a busy time for the manufacturers creating enough stock to fill orders as well getting ready for the shows. Of course they also so have the retails shows to attend which I will also provide on the diary. I hope to have the diary up and running in a couple of days and will keep it as a featured post. I will update it as we go on.

Your feedback is so helpful so please let me know, is this of interest? Do you want more of this sort thing etc! Is it too dry? Not enough photos etc. I'd also like to know what other areas you would like to read about.

Signing off for tonight, but I will see you soon,
Take care
Hugs xx

Masterboard

Hello everyone, today I'm over at Country View Crafts where I showed a Masterboard and what I made from it, all which can be seen below.

Do you ever create Masterboards? They are so handy to have a ready background to use for your crafty makes as I show here on this post. I think I first came across Masterboards on the Paper Artsy blog when Jo Firth Young showed how to make with her lovely stamps.

I didnt use feature stamps on my mine but you could quite easily, instead I used a few background stamps Here's how I created mine!

I keep my Fresco Acrylic Paints by Paper Artsy in the middle draw of a plastic set of 3, and for this project I challenge myself by just reaching in and pulling out 4 colours at Random and this is what I got!

Quite a nice mix I thought!

I applied the colours in no particular order using a small brayer. I wanted a grungy look and was pleased how this came out.

I added some script and texture stamps again randomly over the page which was a 12x12 heavyweight card stock. Although I liked this, I wanted to warm it up a bit and so chose Tikka Fresco Acrylic and a bottle top stamped randomly adding the colour.

I do apologise for the blurry photo but wanted to show some of what I cut from the 1 sheet. I actually managed to get 2
card backgrounds a Tag, a book mark and 4 ATCs not bad! The strips that I cut off will also come in handy to use in collage pieces.

Here are some of the projects I made which you can see in the main photo at the top!

See how versatile they can be!
Hope you liked seeing how to make this if you have any questions please leave in the comments.

Paper Artsy - Fresco Acrylic Paint, stamps used  ELB 29, 30.

Take care everyone and stay Creative
