Making felt

Evening lovelies, today I played with felt. I started laying strands out in the same way you would for for wet felting.

When I was on holiday I was lucky enough to meet Debra Esterhuizen Who is an artist in cumbria who uses felt as a medium. I fell in love with her work which is colourful and bright, take a look for yourself here is her Pinterest page. She also has an online video on how to wet felt and create art. During September it is on special offer and well worth having, as there are some great tips.

So I built 3 layers and then positioned this under my needles and just get it moving. I had an idea what I wanted to do and the size I needed. Once this was felt I repeated the process using lots of colours.

Next I wanted to decorate the back. I chose a simple flower scene  and laid on my wool. When I was happy with the placing I used a hand tool to hold in place. I repeated this until I was happy and then run in under the machine. I learnt that you have to be careful that your design doesn't change too much.

I repeated this process on the flap with an owl. Not the best in the world but I'm happy. Next came the back. I measured the size I needed and proceeded to make my felt. I attached back and front using the machine. Unfortunately in doing so,  I was unable to decorate the front, but I'm am ok with that.

I stitched round the edge with a blue embroidery cotton in blanket stich. As you can see my sewing needs much improvement lol.

And the finished case. My phone will be snug and protected from scratches when in my bag. I loved doing this. It's a great feeling to actually make a piece of fabric and then turn It into a useful Piece of kit,  which I have designed and decorated, no wonder this can become addictive lol.

You don't have to make felt this way, you can use the wet method, check out You Tube for many tutorials on the process.

Thank you for looking

I played with the dragons

Along with the dragons over on the dragon dreaming tag it on blog. I was thrilled when I was asked to take part. Our  tag must include Lace and the letter W. You can see all the other great creations from the dragons here.

So I started my tag by distressing the edges and then using a distress ink in barn door. on top of this I stuck a piece of torn designer paper which had been sprayed with pearl white. I allowed the ink to drip and because it was so light it complimented the paper well.

Next was grunge paste stencilled through JOFY 008 from Paper Artsy which is then coloured with Fancolor pens. Some lace and  pearls finished that layer.   Another piece of the same paper was used to stamp a wishing seed head and allowed the seeds to float onto the background.

I finished the whole tag with a smaller tag attached at the top with the Wish stamped on.

I hope you enjoy your look at all the dragon's tags, because they are really something fab to see . And for an extra treat go visits their blogs it really is worth it, as they are very talented.

Buy for now

Whimsey tag

Evening and another tag this time mixing back grounds with Darcy's stamps.

I first made a background using fresco acrylic paints from Paper Artsy in Mint, Honey dew and Ice blue.

As in the previous post I used collage sheets, this for the body of the house

And this for the roof and windows

However I didn't think the house I wanted to use was comfortable on this background

So I put it away for another day and used distress inks blended to look like a sun setting.

I added some doodles and birds from Darcy 10

And fence and bird from Darcy 09 both plates from Paper Artsy link above.

And the finished tag

Thanks for looking

Face Tag 20 of 29 faces

Hello, this post is a little long as I have had a good play including making some of my own stamps.

For the stamps I played with fun foam and my heated iron stick thingy. I played with pattens and came up with 5 different stamps.

I played with mixIng them together to create collage pages which I then scanned and printed some off to use.

I coloured these with different colour distress ink. Feel free to copy picture if you like them and I would love it if you hit the follow button too.

Anyway here is the tag

I died brushed fresco finish paints in Plum, Eggplant, Lilac and knocked it back with white. Paints from Paper Artsy

I added Haystack, Chesse cake and Pumkin soup once this has dried I added stamping in all the back ground colours, and then added black arcival ink.

To complete the tag I used a face template I made when playing along with Clare Lloyd in a Paper Artsy challenge.  I cut out my face and body and marked how I wanted her hair. I did this also for her dress. I then used these templates to cut out from the collage paper I made earlier.

Once I was happy with all the bits, I assembled it together

Thanks for looking

Take care Debs xx

18 of 29 mixed media with some Darcy stamps

Evening everyone, this is a late post for me but we will have a busy day tomorrow. I hope you are all well and enjoying the lovely weather.

I sat up on a hill in great Langdale this afternoon and it was lovely. I could see the Pikes very clearly and it was a very special seeing them as they feature greatly in my wedding photos as we got married in Langdale.

Any way today's face.

Started like this

A torn up paper bag ( with the spots ) and some other paper from a graphics 45 pad  secret garden. Washi tape that I found in a little store in Ambleside and then Paper Artsy fresco finish acrylic in chalk over the whole page lightly.

The hair was made from soft top wool purchased at Farfield Mill in Sedburgh pulled and shaped and then twisted and plaited. I used flower stamps from Darcy 09 plate from Paper Artsy as well as the little bird. I coloured these in Fibralo pens.

I added some buttons and butterflies from my stash.

I hope you like her and would love to hear your thoughts

17 of 29

Evening peeps I went to the pencil museam today and stocked up on some paper and more inktense pencils. I also brought a black watercolour pad and so thought for this face I would use white on black.

I liked the effect so doodled a bit too.

I'm sorry the photo isn't good quality but the lighting is very low in this cottage.

Thanks for looking

Day 11 of 29 something a bit different

Hello, I hope you are enjoying your Saturday. I've spent the morning pottering about, cooking dinner etc ready for when my man comes home ravenous from his long walk.

On Wednesday we went to Marmsbury and in particular to Abbey house gardens ( the naked gardeners ). We loved it! It's is probably the most interesting garden we have seen. It is full of curios with twists and turns and some magnificent planting. We also had to chuckle to ourselves because low and behold Ian ( who partly owns the property with his estranged wife ) was out in the garden tending to it, with a long T-shirt on and boots, and what looked like nothing else. We didn't get too near him just in case lol.

We were also very sad to hear via an eavesdropped conversation that he has to sell the property due to his wife filing for divorce. We know that the town are very worried that who ever buys it, will close it to the public thus ending the Torist  attraction that brings in wealth to the small town. So my plea to Tony who may purchase the property, is let us still have this magnificent and wonderfully interesting garden available to us if only for some time of the year.

Anyway I've got carried away! Here is my interpretation of one of the gargoyles we found there. I hope you like it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Thanks for looking and I'll see you very soon

Day 10 of 29

Morning all, it. Is another glorious day here in Ambelside. My other half has took himself off for the day and so I have the whole day to play.

This face is a little different as I input it into Art set an app on my ipad and used the tools to colour it. I chose one of the three faces from earlier

And used a combination of pencil and oil pastels blended with a stump and water. I like the effect, what do you think?

Thank you for looking take care and see you soon
