Not just for the birthday but to keep...

I wanted to make something nice for my sister in-law. She always make us such nice cards using cross stitch pictures that she sews, and which are nice to keep as pictures. So what could I do I thought... Well this is what I cam up with. A card with an embellishment that could be taken off and hung up. 

First I collected my supplies 

And some stamps

I also decided to make a small plaque. I cut a piece of mounting card approx 3x2in. I laid some trinkets on it and some sparkle ( couldn't forget the sparkle) I then covered it with clear UTEE. Once it was dry I sand the sides and used an alcohol pen to add a distress look to the sides. I added some raffia with which to hang it and added a bow.

It looked rough but I liked that look as it suited the card I wanted to make.

I used  an A5 card and stamped some script randomly around the edge in coffee archival ink. I then stamped the designs onto white card. The bodice didn't quite take all the ink leaving it patchy! No problem I thought, so I took my true black alcohol pen and filled in the bits that were missing.

I used distress ink around the stamps and then mounted them onto some pretty paper that matched my design. Next I assembled the card adding some lace and buttons to finish it off.

 And so here is the finished card.

Painted face

The afternoon marched on and just could not motivate to make more cards. I wanted to paint and after tweeting with Hazel decided that I would do just that so here is my face. I started drawing her and decided to draw an upturned face. I have never drawn the like this before so re- watched Jane davenport's  drawing emotions and in particular her upturned face. 

I sketched out my face using col-erase by prismacolour. I then added some washes using neocolour ll by carandashe. 

I built up the colour using both mediums until I got the depth I wanted. Once I had got there I played around with colours until I had finished. Never no when to stop really.

Darcy at Art and Sole tag challenge

Another challenge set by Darcy on her blog. Tags, one stamp used  many different ways. Why not I said to myself let's have a go. I only manage 5 but was happy with the result.

I decided to use the bauble ( I cannot remeber wher from ) tags are cut from my tim holtz die measuring roughly 3x6 I do not have many as you go photos as I kept forgetting but I have added the details.

The coloured baubles robins and presents are all painted using fresco paints from Paper Artsy. Colours I used were London bus Pumpkin Soup and South Pacific. I mixed the blue and yellow to get the green for leaves and then all three colours for the robin. I used distress ink round the edges of all cards. 

1st tag I used a stencil from dylusions and used fresco paint in Vintage Lace (I adore this colour) and Lilac.

I then stamped the bauble in chipped sapphire added some sparkle and a ribbon.

2 nd card I stamped the bauble in silver all over the card then added the cut out and painted robin bauble and holly.

3rd card I stamped a snow flake all over then added the bauble and presents add some sparkle and a ribbon

4th card I distress the card then used the bauble stamp round the edges to give it a frame. I then added a christmas tree stencil more glitter and ribbon.

And the last card again distressed the tag  added some music script and then the bauble and holly.

Paper Artsy Challenge by Alison Bomber

I thought it would be fun to use the inspiration from Alison Bomber' Challenge over at Paper Artsy I couldn't enter the challenge as I didn't finish in time but still thought it would be good to try. I was inspired to try out Alison's technique on two tags.  I used Fresco acrylics in Pansy, Lilac and Eggplant on a dylusions stencil let it snow on my first tag and then as Alison's suggested flipped it over onto the other tag. It was quite dry and so didn't leave a lot of paint but I was ok with that.

I used distress ink to add some more colour and make the paint pop. I then used a dylusions stamp

Quintessential Quotes snowflake randomly to add some more interest.

At this point I took a left turn I loved the colours and was pulled towards something else I'd seen by Tammy  Tutterow  which had inspired me so thought I'd combine the two.  I added some lace and ribbon to each tag.

I wanted to add a heart but did not have one the size I needed so drew one and cut two out of card. I added some script decoupage page to cover the heart and added them to the tag using double sided sticky foam. I then added some flowers and a bow topped with a safty pin.

 I added a metal flower and some words. I finished off with string and a small lilac bow to hang the tag.

Darcy's 6 card challenge

Darcy from Art and Sole set a challenge last week, to design 6 cards using one feature stamp. I wasn't going to enter as I didn't think I could do it, but today I thought why not so here are my cards.

I decided to use the robin from JOFY 20 as the one that I use on each card.

Card 1

On this card I used the robin half off the page to creat a border. I used distress ink in tattered rose around the edge. I used promarkers to colour the wiseman and then added some glitter around the oval. I cut out a piece of acetate with snow effect and stuck on the inside, so the wiseman are getting snowed on .

Card 2

On this card I stamped a robin in each square. I stamped some foliage from FOFY M28 coloured it and stuck them on. I drew some berries to add a bit more colour. I distressed the edge of the card in old paper.

Card 3

This card was cut from a sizzix die I stamped and coloured the robins in the 4 corners. I distressed the edges in shabby shutters and added lots of glitter. The photo doesn't show it but it is very pretty round the edges.

Card 4

I used a paper that had a christmas tree on it. I thought this would be good to add some robins to. I edged the tree in black so that it stood out more and added some pink glitter and gems.

Card 5 

On this card I drew a branch to add the robins. I cut out a coloured some more foliage. I added some decoration around the card and some sparkle again very pretty but doesn't show in picture.

Card 6 

Again used the robins as a border but it in a different way this time you can see they robins and they are coloured in. I distress round the edge of the card with antique linen. I coloured the star and added sparkle.

I really enjoyed making these cards and would le to thank Darcy for the challenge.

Birthday card

No photo steps but I'll talk you through how I created this card for my son in law.

To start, I distressed some white card  5x7 with black soot, pumice stone and a touch of aged mahogany,  I left the centre almost clear. This was then mounted onto black card then used some stamps from  tim holtz City Central stamped in black. I stamped the heart and tag onto red card and tore round the edges. I used washi tape across the top and stuck the red card onto it. The other hearts are tim holzts sizzix dies cut from metal card from Paper Artsy. I embossed this with a cog pattern. I used one heart metal side and the heart and wings I used on the black side with treasure gold to highlight the cogs. I used metal corners to finish off the card. I hope he likes it

Halloween

I couldn't decide whether to go for something spooky for Halloween or not. I decided no as I'm just not a spooky kinda girl :)

Anyway I really enjoyed Tams tutorial on life book 2013 and decided to create my own pictured based on her tutorial. I have signed up for a few of her online classes as I love her style of painting and her style of teaching she is fab.

I didn't do many steps as I forgot. I get so carried away,  and then think oh I could put this on the blog so the first photo has a picture of me in black and white cut around my face to discard my hair. I'm then stuck onto my paper which is A3 size 16 1/2 in x 11 1/4in or 42cm x 29.7cm it is Windsor and Newton 220gsm heavy weight cartridge paper smooth. It was great to work on and held up to all the battering it got.

I use a variety of papers stuck around me and give it a wash of claret fresco paint from Paper Artsy

I work on the face and hair using Neao 2 crayons and Fabre castle pencils plus some white acrylic. I dint leave too much graphite on the face as I don't like the colour. I also used my artistic Liscense and made myself look 20 years younger. I also added the moon.

I continued to work on the picture adding in the pumpkin.

Some quickies

The start of the many cards I want to make for my family and friends to spread a little christmas cheer.

I kept them simple and discovered I loved how they looked. I'm also inspired by Joanne Wardel  cannot wait to get started on some more.

Work shop

I was so excited! I finally got to a work shop with Jo Firth Young at a lovely craft shop in Marks Tey called Birds in the Barn.    

I love this shop the staff are always so helpful and friendly. There is always an abundance of stock and a variety of samples throughout the store. They also run a loyalty card which great, to add to your stash when it hasn't cost you a penny.

Anyway to the workshop. Jo's project was a triptych using her fabulous stamps. First we painted the triptych in a dark neutral colour. Once dry Jo showed us how to apply crackle glaze. We did this to the top of the project and a little down the sides. This left us some space to stamp without the cracks.

We then painted it all with nougat fresco from Paper Artsy and watched the cracks appear as it dried. Next we stamped the flowers and finished off following Jo's great demonstrations.

Colours used all from Paper Artsy: fresco acrylics  back ground - nougat,  grass - tinned peas and hey Pesto flowers claret and inky squid
