Industrial no 2

Morning my crafty friends, today I'm sharing my second make for the current challenge at Country View Crafts.

I'm always curious where inspiration comes from and in this case it was a TV programme, Australian My Kitchen Rules. In their headquarters kitchen the backdrop looks like panels of rust which includes greens and blues as well as the rust colour. So, my background is very similar.

I got so carried away at the start I forgot to take photos lol. However what I did was, spray some blues and greens onto my heavyweight card (Smoothy card from Paper Artsy is 340 ) which was perfect for what I wanted. I then scraped on a thin layer of Texture Sand from DecoArt all over, and dried it off. On top of this I painted one layer of Rusty Paper by Viva, which is a beautiful thick paint like substance which just looks like liquid rust. I dried this and then sprayed some more blues and greens. I then cut these into 1 inch strips which I cut to different lengths. I love how this come out, the photos don't really show how deep the colours look.

I arranged these pieces to form my background. I used a 6.5x6.5 board book by Eco-Friendly which is fabulous for adding diamentions to you page as it allows about 1/8th for each page.

The gaps I filled in with a black felt pen. Then started to add my elements. The glue can just be seen on these pics which was Golden Heavy Matt Medium but will dry clear.

I arranged a variety of pieces keeping to the old and rusty pieces representing the industries of old. My fantasy is a key at the back which when turned hoists the container upwards to the surface so the jewels can be removed.

The elements I used are from my stash of bits and bobs collected over the last three years, except the rust container which is from Finnabair by Prima.

And one last look at the finished project

I hope I have inspired you to get your thinking caps on and come up with some lovely rusty, greasy pieces.

Take care as always and I'll see you soon.

  4. I have had your page open on my phone, for days. I didn't have time to properly look then but knew I wanted to comment. This is utterly brilliant! The rust look is something I struggle to achieve (will be reading yr method again). You have nailed it, absolutely & SO realistically? I am in awe. As for the whole piece, totally up my strasse, grungey, metallic, rusty, vintage... Wonderful! Ty for sharing. C
