All fixed

Hello peeps thanks for popping in, as I have a little project I'd like to share which I hope you will find useful at some time. I've created a journal page which I'm satisfied with out of two pieces of work which weren't working for me. Here's how it goes...

Yesterday I had a quick play with Jo Firth Young's new release for Paper Artsy but didn't actually but didn't have a design in mind. I just stamped and painted, loving the play and enjoying the new stamps. They are great for colouring what ever your medium of choice is, and to help us with shading Jo has including some shaded areas.

A few days ago I had a play with a stamp from Trish Latimer's second release of her whimsey girls, this one is number 2. I loved the her but didn't like the background I had created, so had left it on the side.

Looking at both of these pieces on my desk while drinking a coffee, an idea came to mind, to cut out the bits I liked and stick onto a new background, creating something with which I'm happy. So I set out to create a new background using Prima watercolour paper 8x8 and Ecoline Watercolour paints. I used a Windor and Newton Sable #10 brush and added water all over the page. First using green I covered the bottom of the page and tipped it to drip. I repeated the same at the top with purple.

I added blue to the top and dried it, then used a technique by Tim Holzt spritz and flick, added lots of water to the page. I let it sit for a while and then with a dry cloth I removed the surface water and then dried with a heat tool.

Now I had my background ready I chose my elements and cut them out. I wouldn't usually mix up stamps in this way, i.e. two different designers, but I hope I can be forgiven this time. Arranging them on the background until satisfied with the layout, I then stamped the tree from JOFY 47 and using a mix of oil pastel and water soluble pencil coloured it in.

Finally I put it all together and stuck it all down. I added a few white splats and white dots and went round the elements in black pen to anchor them to the page. Here's another look.

And there you have it! If you really cannot salvage or rework your piece , pick what you like from it, cut it out and use it

To make something new!

Quick play

Morning everyone, it's nearly Midnight here in Essex so I'll wish a happy Sunday to you all. I had a play this evening with the circles from EEA3 from Paper Artsy and made myself a Mandala.

I used Cosmic Shimmer watercolours and a black pen, the outside is Infusions on the background and then stamps from the same same plate as above.

Found this so relaxing!

Colour Mixing

Hi everyone, tonight I'm over at Paper Artsy with a post on Colour mixing. As well mixing different colours together or making them darker or lighter I like to use colours to either compliment or contrast with each other. I also like to use different colour combinations to create different effects. Here's my creation

Under the Sea

Hi everyone, and welcome! Thanks for visiting today, as I have a mixed media piece to share with you, which I'm entering into DecoArt's challenge Under The Sea. I imagined looking out of a porthole to see some sunken treasure and a mermaid, so that's what I set out to create, and this is the result.

I used a board I had covered in different papers stuck on randomly. They had different textures which I thought would be interesting. I then squirted some DecoArt Media Fluid in blues and greens all over and with a Brayer spread the paint. I used Blue and Green Media Spray from DecoArt to get some drips.

I dried this off and dripped more paint. I manipulated the paint with a stick to form wavy plant life. While this was drying I played with the elements I had prepared, to see where I wanted to place them. Some were from our trip to Lulworth Cove when we stayed in the New Forest last March.

I stuck the circle which was from Dusty Attic (it was the negative space from a circle of barbed wire), to the board. I had Andy Skinnered the circle and some of the other elements previous and they were perfectly dry. I love this technique of creating rust, it is my favourite I think! I stuck down the other elements, (fishing net and plants from Dusty Attic).

I drew my mermaid with a black pen and once dry used Prima watercolours to paint her. I cut her out and stuck her into place. The treasure chest is a Slide Mailer from Paper Artsy which I had aged with crackle Paint from DecoArt. Inside is a cargo of pearls and diamonds.

New Challenge

Morning everyone, today sees my return to Country View Crafts Challenge Blog Design team, phew! That was a mouthful. I'm delighted to start back on the team, especially with a wonderful summer theme, of Hot Summer Days. There are some fabulous makes over at CVC from my teammates to temp to play along, and if you win you will receive a voucher to spend in the shop. So for my inspiration I created this tag.

I used white Gesso on the tag first and then dried it. I spritz the tag with water them sprinkled on Infusions in Lemonchello and are you Cerise.

I let the water puddle for a bit and then turned the tag to get some drips sideways. Once dry I stamped some butterflies on the background and a little stamping from a hand carved stamp.

Once it was completely dry, I stamped the first part of the feature. I love this stamp as it reminds me of a Mediterranean courtyard with vines growing up the sides of walls which have flaky paint and cobbled path leading to the building. I imagine lemon and orange trees growing nearby as well as olive trees and juicy red tomatoes.

I used water soluble pencils to colour in the building, and then taking the same colours outside to balance the piece.

I stamped the fore ground with flowers from Paper Artsy HP 1009

The flowers were coloured with the same pencils adding lots of layers to create depth. And another look at the whole thing.

Acrylic Play

Morning everyone, thank you for popping in. I'm squeezing this post in before the children wake up. We are having a bbq today to celebrate my grandson's 16th birthday so it will soon be full on here, getting ready. just recently I played with lots of the new acrylic substrates released by That's Crafty. Today I'm going to share a journal. It has 3 acrylic pages and the MDF front and back.

Page two

I used a paper first to cover the working of the other side. That's Crafty New stencil and Grunge Paste from that Paper Artsy. I used stencils and Archival Ink on the background. Sanded down the Grunge Paste to bring back the white which actually looked like Ivory once finished.

This one I painted, I have some steps to show the process.

In this one you can just see how I stamped the leafs from Sara Newman ESN20 and butterfly HP1203 both from Paper Artsy.

The background is filled with foil flakes and lastly paper from Prima.

Simple page using DecoArt plumb I drew the cat. I had to wait until this was dry (overnight) I then used That's Crafty Stencils and drew round them, like in the old days lol. Waited for these to dry and then filled it in with glazes from DecoArt.

I used that's Crafty Stencils and Archival Ink to create Angels, added the wings and the hair is the flower stencil.

Quick Draw

Hi everyone thank you for popping in. Are you looking toward to the weekend? I know I am! Well I always look forward to the weekend but this ones special. It sees my lovely grandson turn 16, and I get to see them all as they come on Saturday for week. Sorry for going on but I'm sooooooo excited lol. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend doing whatever you love most. Back to today, I'm sharing this quick scribble face, which I will link to Kim Dellow's 'show your face' Friday. Kim invites us to link our faces every week to her site, and this month we have a theme if quick draws. I didn't set a timer, but I work fast anyway. Cannot do slow methodical as its not my style. Once the inspiration hits I'm away! Lol! So this quick draw idea suits me perfectly.

I used the photo below for reference (on Pinterest)

And with a black pen sketched out the face. I dried the ink which makes it waterproof so I could go over with watercolour.

I used Prima Decadent Pies which are really nice paints. This is actually my first time using them and I was very pleased with them.

Carrying her heart

Hi everyone thank you for stopping by, I have a quick post today to share another journal page using Whimsey Girl no 2 from the new release of stamps from Trish Latimer. All the stamps can be found here on the Etsy Shop.

I forgot to take step outs as I was so enjoying myself!

The background was Fresco Acrylic Paint from Paper Artsy Black Archival Ink and Prima Water Soluble Pencils.

New journal page

Hi everyone, I had a busy weekend preparing for the arrival of my daughter and Grandchildren, who arrive next Saturday, I'm sooo excited. Despite the busyness I still found time for a play in my journal. I was inspired to do this page by the current lesson in Wanderlust a year long programme of workshops and lessons. The pages are difficult to show as its a double spread, but hopefully you it will make sense. The Stamps I've used are the new release from Paper Artsy and Everything Art. I used a variety of Archival Inks on top of Infusions on Gesso. I also used some images sent free with some stamps I purchased from Teesha Moore as well as some fabric.

I loved making this and felt very free with my decision making, just followed my intuition which is sooo satisfying!
