More for Halloween

Hello me again! Welcome to more Halloween. Just a quick one today with a different take on Halloween, I drew this ages ago, originally part of a set of Stencils images for a craft shop, who then decided they didn't want them. So rather than just letting them grow dusty I thought I would use them. This is Jim the ventriloquist's dummy and I'm going to enter him into A Vintage Journey's current challenge as well as Write Edit Publish,

After adding some more colour using Oil Pastels, I decided to finish him off digitally using Procreate and Repix

4 colours

Hello everyone, welcome back. It so kind of you to visit, but you might need a drink for this one, as there are quite few photos! I've been playing freely, which I love, and wanted to challenge myself. So I decided to only use Fresco Acrylic Paint in the new Seth Apter's colours. These colours are my favourite at the moment, you can see them here if you are not familiar with them. I also allowed myself to mix different colours but only with the original four colours.

I used Seth Stamps ESA 01 and also two circle Stencils. The only other colours are from my black and white pens, and white Portfolio crayon. So here it is! I am going to enter this into the Paper Artsy challenge which current theme is use Die Cuts. 

 

The only plan I had to start was that I wanted to create a peeled  paint background, so I set about creating a few layers.

 

 

 

 

 

Once this was dry, I applied some petroleum jelly randomly over my page on top of which I applied a thick coat of crackle glaze. You don't have to use a lot but I wanted big crackle, and once dry applied a thick coat of Midnight.

 

 

I deliberately left some areas as I knew I was going to continue building layers

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I completely dried this and continued to heat it until you could see where the petroleum jelly was underneath the layers, I rubbed quite hard with a dry cloth to expose the layers below which you can see in the next two photos.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next came Maggie again only using Seth's colours 

 

 

 

And finally I added my painted Die Cuts, which I then decorated, and the sentiment is from Seth's Stamp plate.

Something for Halloween!

Hello everyone thank you for stopping by, I know two in one day! Well,  I have a journal page to share, but it's not for the feint hearted! I do hope you like her, or maybe not ... Over at A Vintage Journey  the theme for Octobers challenge is Make it Spooky, so I did lol. I am going to enter this into the challenge.

Heart of Gold

Morning everyone, I have project to share today that I have worked on in stages. I do hope you like it!

 

Let's start with the heart

 

Apply a thick layer of craft paste and stamp into randomly (I used a hand carved stamp). Dry with heat tool and then paint a thick layer of crackle paint, let this dry naturally. I used DecoArt for both the paste and paint.   

For the colour I used Shimmerz Paints from the tonez range Ocean earth and Celestial. I only used the Sprays on this heart but the tonez range are sets of coordinating colours which include the Sprays and paints. You can see more of these paints here  

 

Next I moved onto the feature

 

I covered the heart in gold glitter and add the pearls and diamonds. The figure inside was drawn onto shrink plastic and then cut out and heated. Love this stuff amazes me every time I use it. The feature is from Prima.    

 

Next the background 

 

 

I Used the new colours designed by Seth Apter for Paper Artsy, layering the colours and using a variety of tools to make marks.  

I drew some some flowers and painted them, once dry I sprayed with a gloss sealer. Some close ups

 

 

 

And one last look at the whole thing.

New Series, Materials and my thoughts

Hi everyone a very warm welcome to you all. Im sorry I haven't been around much lately, what with study, work and life in general I just haven't had time. I hope you are all well and finding time to create.

This post is part 1 of a monthly review of products that live in my craft room. I am no expert, but I will share my experiences and where possible compare them with similar products.

So to kick us off I'm using Distress Crayons designed by Tim Holtz for Ranger and Gelatos, by Fabre Castelle. Many people ask themselves is there a difference, or which of them should they buy. So hopefully this will give you some information to help make that decision easy.

 

In this part1, I wanted to compare how they performed on paper dry, so one half of the page was coated with Gesso and the other left as it is. I then scribbled on the paper with 3 similar colours from each brand.

 

The lefthand side had the Gesso and the right hand nothing. I applied the Crayons on both sides, and as you can see both sets were easily blended, although I think they both went on better over the Gesso. They both were smooth and blended easily, whereas on the non Gesso side although they still blended it was harder to get wax to move.

My next test was to stamp on all four parts of my page using Black Archival Ink and a flower from EEG14 from Paper Artsy.

All four stamped well, with little to distinguish between them, however colouring in the flowers it became clear that The Distress inks worked better on the non Gessoed side than the Gelatos. You can see how the wax has filled in the stamped area well on three of the four flowers, the forth, bottom right isn't so covered.

 

My conclusion is that using them dry they both performed in a similar way;whereas the Distress Crayons worked better on the non Gessoed side. So if you are someone who doesn't like to prime your page first, then for blending go for the Distress Crayons. If you do prime both work equally well.

 

Part2 will look at how they both perform when activated with liquid, and how other mediums work on top of them. So watch this space.

Spooks Wedding

Hello everyone, today we enter October which is full of Autumn colour, and for some it is also the month of Spooks and Gouls, when withches fly and superstitions are everywhere!   Things brings me to the new Challenge at Country View Crafts which is Spooks! Well it had to be didn't? You could be in with a chance Of £20 voucher to spend in the shop. my team mates have a plethora of fabulous arty spooky makes to inspire you and we cannot wait to see all your fabulous  makes.

Using Fresco Acrylic from Paper Artsy in Zucchini, Tinned Peas and Midnight.

 

 

I used Brilliance Ink Moonlight White and Tim Holtz Day of the Dead stamps 

 

 

Same stamps used on Smoothy card with black Archival Ink, colour is Inktense Pencil.

 

 

 Wrote my sentiment with Sharpie pen in red and then sprayed red Media Mist from DecoArt. I used distress Crayons around the figures to add some depth. The background also has some distress ink in Salty Ocean and Fossilised Amber.
