Up Up and Away with a twist.

Morning everyone from sunny Turkey, I hope where ever you are on the globe that you are happy and healthy, and have peace in your hearts.

Today I'm sharing a little mixed media creation made for the Stamps and Stencil challenge which is Up Up and Away with a twist which is to use Autumn colours.

I do hope it qualifies, I have used Neo II crayons Intense pencils, Stabilo All Pencils in both black and white as well as a Fude Pen and White Signo gel pen. Dinky stencils for that's Crafty and two stamps out of one of Finnibair collections.

To start I scribbled some crayons over the page and added water to activate the colours, then quickly applied the stencil and with a dry cloth removed some colour. For other layers of colour I scribbled the crayons onto a saucer, activated them with water until I had a quite a thick colour this was then applied through the stencil in the normal way. I did find this difficult to do it hour the colour seeping under the stencil because the mix was still quite watery. I also used pens and pencils in the stencils in the old fashion way.

Face number 3

Hello again and welcome. Once the sun began to set I got out my crayons and pencils again and this face was created. I forgot to take photos at the beginning but managed quite a few once I started.

Hello and welcome to my third post today. I could get used to this you know! It has been lovely catching up on some blog reading and leaving comments on some great art. Having time to create freely is also very addictive.

Face inspired by Shirley Mason

Hello lovelies, welcome to Art it Friday created by the lovely Kim Dellow. We draw paint scribble any kind of face and then link up to her site. All info can be found here.

Last month if we wanted to, we could be inspired by our fellow artist who link each week on Kim's Site. As a community we will choose a way forward, but for this week I have chosen an artists that inspire me. I have chosen Shirley Mason. She isn't very well known for her art, as many people know her as Sybil. Her art isn't faces so I chose a background to inspire me.

Sybil was the name given her by Flora Schreiber who in collaboration with Dr Wilbur wrote Shirley's story. If any of you have read Sybil, you would know what a truly courageous woman Shirley was. Her first 20 odd years were full of emotion physical and sexual abuse perpetrated my her own mother. Shirley brain in an attempt to protect her from the abuse split off into many different personalities, 16 in fact. I was drawn to the book during my psychotherapy training from a practitioners point of view. Dr Wilbour was Shirly's psychiatrist and worked with her for many years to help integrate her personality into one whole person.

Shirley's story was made into a film where Sally Fields played the leading role. However, the life after therapy isn't so well known, which is why I have chosen her to be my inspiration. Shirley went onto to finish her art degree and taught Art For many years until her retirement.

You can see some of her art here; some is in private collections of friends who protected her identity as Sybil for many years until her death in 1998.

So this is my little tribute to Shirley, a very talented artist in her own right. I chose to use one of her paintings for the background of my face, which its self is just a simple face!

I started by blocking in some colour in the background in a similar way to how I perceived she did. I have very limited supplies with here in Turkey so mainly relied on my Neo II crayons.

Next I darken my colours slightly and add more to my background.

New challenge at That's Crafty

Hello everyone, welcome to this fortnights challenge over at That's Crafty which is Lovely Leaves. It's very apt for this time a year as many of the leaves on the plants and trees are turning beautiful colours.
Autumn is my second favourite seasons, and in particular September. It's still quite bright but cooler. I love the varied colours of Mother Nature and like many animals I feel the need to improve my nest for hibernation. I've already highlighted to my other half the jobs that need doing before winter sets in.
So get your thinking caps on, if you are the winner you could win a voucher to spend in store. How fabulous is that.

Back to my inspiration

                                                                  This is what I did.

Taking a Grey/white board I used Grunge Paste through a Lin Brown 006 stencil all from Paper Artsy and once dry, sprayed the background in pinks and orange colours from Lyndy's Stamp Gang.

I repositioned the stencil and using VersaMark coated the leaves in glue. I then sprinkled UTEE in Lapis Pearl from Cosmic Shimmer.

Next I stamped some leaves from plate Hot Picks 1505 from Paper Artsy onto heavy Smoothly Card and then embossed them with green embossing powder from Wow. I also stamped some of the seed heads.

The leaves were then painted with with Fresco Acrylic Paints in Claret, Guacamole, Lemon Zing and Autumn Fire.

These were then coated in clear UTEE.

I prepared another board 6x6 by stamping the background with stamps from Finnibair for Prima using Potting Soil Archival ink. Once this was dry I arranged my leaves.

It was then put together and finished off with some lines from one of my fav poems by Emily Dickinson.

The full poem

The Wind begun to rock the grass

With threatening tunes and low,

He flung a menace at the earth,

A menace at the sky.

The leaves unhooked themselves from trees

And started all abroad;

The dust did scoop itself like hands

And throw away the road.

The wagons quickened on the streets,

The thunder hurried slow;

The lightning showed a yellow beak,

And then a livid claw.

The birds put up the bars to nests,

The cattle fled to barns;

There came one drop of giant rain,

And then, as if the hands

That held the dams had parted hold,

The waters wrecked the sky,

But overlooked my father’s house,

Just quartering a tree.

Tim's September tag

Hello everyone, big waves from Turkey, hope you are all ok wherever you are. Before we came away I had a play making a tag In Tim Holtz style. For those that do not know Tim blogs a tag each month which we can follow and link to his blog. Every month several tags are chosen to receive a prize. I don't always play sometimes because I don't have times and sometimes Tim's creation doesn't speak to me. This month I had time and I loved his tag which you can see here.

Fantastic News! and a Give away!

Hello everyone and welcome. Thanks for stopping by as I have some great new to share. I will be demonstrating for Paper Artsy at Ally Paly on September 20st! and I've got 2 tickets  for the show to give away. How fabulous is that! I'm thrilled to be demoing on the Sunday and hope to see some of you there.

Tag Holder for Country View Craft's New Challenge

Hello everyone, and welcome. Thanks for popping in, as today I'm sharing my inspiration for Country View Crafts new challenge which is numbers. You can see it here.

I made a tag holder out of a #12 tag, to hold some of my tags as I'm finding them everywhere. Here is the finished holder. Which holds about six tags.

Playing with Fresco Acrylic Paint

IHello everyone. I am loving having today off. I have been painting since about about 8:30 this morning. I must of planned this in my sleep! because it was not in mind when I went to sleep, but this morning I woke up and this is what I got, we'll sort of! The point is it's them circles again. I am really loving the challenge at Paper Artsy this fortnight, which is circles.  I was inspired by Anneke de Clerk circles/flowers which you can see here.

I love circles anyway, but this challenge is making thinking of them in a different way.  I loved painting this so much it's now in my kitchen lol, and I'm entering this into the Paper Artsy challenge.

                                                   

                                                     

The canvass is an 8x12 deep one from Paper Artsy.

The Acrylic Paints I used are from paper Artsy. Purple Rain, SnowFlake, Hey Presto and Guacamole 

The background is a combination of different sprays including, Lyndys sprays, DecoArt Media Mist and Prima ColorBloom.

I'm not totally sure if it's finished, as I think it may look different once the bead gel dries. But for now it's finished.

Circles number three

Hello everyone, I've been having fun in the craft room creating something for my logo. And I found my self adding circles. They are tiny but definitely too large to be dots. So I thought I'd enter it into the Challenge at Paper Artsy whose theme is Circles. There are some wonderful inspirations over there so please don't miss it.

ATC

Hello everyone, happy bank holiday weekend. I've been messing around with shrink plastic, this time for an ATC. Although originally I was just playing with nothing specific in mind accept the circles. They were inspired by Gabrielle. I just loved how her circles swept upwards and across. You can see her lovely journal page here

Im going to enter my ATC into the Paper Artsy's current theme which is Circles.

                                       

I coated an MDF ATC  in Crackle Paint and while it was drying I drew my flower on a piece of Shrink Plastic. I painted my flower with Paint Pens. Once it was dry I used a black pen to add some definition.

I cut a few different sized circles out of Shrink Plastic then punched a hole in each one. After shrinking them, I sprayed them with Green and Purple acrylic paint. 

Once assembled I added some little gold circles using a stencil and finished off with some Treasure Gold in White Fire.

Art it Friday Face

Hello every, Yah! It's finally Friday. This week has really dragged for me, I don't know about you? I've been looking forward to the bank holiday for a while, then it's only four days of work and then two whole weeks off. Not sure if we are going away yet.

New Challenge at that's Crafty

Hello everyone and welcome. Here is my inspiration for the new challenge Thats Crafty  who Theme is Alphabet Soup. Pop along to see all the wonderful inspiration from my teamies entering the challenge gives you a chance to chance to win

                                     

So onto my piece 

                                     

 Here's how I made it

                                    

                        I stuck some letters and torn paper onto a canvas board both from my stash

                                        

 
                             I added some frontage in silver and then sprayed some distress ink 

                                        

                                                       I used gellatos to add colour

         

I took a wooden frame and using Treasure Gold in silver coated it all over. I added a vintage photo and then covered it in UTEE

                                    

                                I added my sentiment and added some colours to the letters

                                     

                                                So go on see what you come up with
